A Vange playing field has been legally protected for future generations to enjoy following an application from the council and local community group.

Basildon councillors, working with the Vange Community Group, identified the site, in Kent View Road, as a prime location for a Fields in Trust (FiT) deed of dedication.

Cllr Kevin Blake, Basildon Council’s Chairman of the Leisure, Culture and Environment Committee, handed over a plaque to Vange Community Group to mark the occasion on Monday 4 June.

Fields in Trust are a national charity which provide legal protection for playing fields, play spaces, recreation grounds and other open spaces.

They protect land through “Deeds of Dedication”. The Deeds are a legally binding document which means each field is protected for future generations to enjoy.

An application to FiT was made late in 2017, after the council’s Policy and Resources Committee passed a resolution to support the proposal.

FiT confirmed the deeds of dedication were in place recently.
