Basildon Council will formalise its partnership with Brentwood Council by entering into a shared agreement to manage the delivery of housing stock repairs and maintenance services.

The latest shared service agreement, which was approved by the Policy and Resources Committee on Wednesday 21 March, will provide an opportunity for both local authorities to exchange skills and expertise. The decision follows the successful shared Revenues and Benefits service agreement which has been in place since December 2014.

Cllr Gavin Callaghan, Chairman of Basildon Council’s Policy and Resources Committee, said: “Brentwood Council shares our vision to collaboratively deliver quality front and back office services, and as pressure on local government resources increases it is even more crucial that we develop efficient and innovative approaches.

“Brentwood Council has been looking for a managed housing service to offer support and meet its gaps in expertise, and working with us – instead of outsourcing the service – will reduce costs and drive continuous improvement. Any income generated as a result of the shared service agreement will be paid back into the wider public purse for the benefit of residents.”
