The first homes built by Basildon Council in more than 25 years were handed over today (Thursday 18 January)

The four two-bedroom homes – built as part of the council’s ambitious New Homes Programme – were handed over in Quendon Road, Basildon.

Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee, Cllr Gavin Callaghan viewed the new properties yesterday at a special event to mark the handover (Thursday 18 January)

Cllr Gavin Callaghan, said: “We are serious about building council housing and ensuring we provide high quality homes for people in our borough.

“Our aim is to create strong and healthy communities with access to quality homes. We are also keen to increase the offer of other types of housing like shared ownership for the borough’s key workers.”

Quendon Road is one of three redevelopment schemes that will deliver four two-bedroom homes alongside three two-bedroom homes in Rettendon Gardens, Wickford, and four, two-bedroom homes in Victoria Road, Laindon.

The properties will come with furniture, a quality aerial installation with guarantee, general maintenance provided, and basic security cameras installed.

The three sites will provide a total of 11 much needed homes for families who are on the council’s homeseeker register.

Over the next five years the council’s new build programme is aiming to develop a further 100 homes with 584 more to be developed by the council’s housebuilding company, Sempra Homes.

Tenants will move into the new homes next week.
