Residents and visitors are being reminded that Billericay High Street will be closed to traffic from 8am until 8pm on Sunday 13th September as the town comes together for the first Your Billericay Community Parade & Celebration Day– otherwise known as ‘National Billericay Day’!
The road closure will allow hundreds of local people to take part in a huge community parade before the High Street becomes the setting for a day of free entertainment, activities and traditional community fun.
Ahead of the event, Your Billericay is asking motorists to plan ahead and, importantly, not to leave vehicles parked on the High Street overnight on Saturday 12th September.
Anyone parking on the High Street on Saturday evening should ensure their vehicle is removed before the road closure comes into effect at 8am on Sunday. Vehicles left within the closed section of the High Street will not be accessible again until the road reopens at 8pm on Sunday evening.
The closure is an important part of creating a safe, traffic free space for what is set to be one of Billericay’s biggest community celebrations of the year.
The festivities will begin with the Community Parade at 11am, bringing together hundreds of participants from across the town, including local schools, dancers, cheerleaders, majorettes, charities, clubs, community groups and organisations.
Once the parade has finished, the celebrations will continue throughout the day, with the High Street transformed into a space for the whole community to enjoy.
Visitors can look forward to free face painting, balloon modelling, close-up magic, Punch & Judy shows, stilt walkers, roller skaters, live entertainment and a family friendly community trail, alongside activities and offers from businesses across the town.
The focus of the day will be firmly on Billericay, celebrating the High Street, its businesses, local organisations, community groups and the people who make the town such a special place.
Nikki Machin , BID Manager for Your Billericay, said: “We’re incredibly excited to bring the whole town together for our first Community Parade & Celebration Day, or, as we’ve affectionately named it, National Billericay Day!
“Closing the High Street gives us the opportunity to create a fantastic traffic free celebration right in the heart of the town, but we do need everyone’s help in making sure it is clear and ready for Sunday morning.
“We’re therefore asking anyone visiting the High Street on Saturday evening to please make sure they don’t leave their car parked overnight, as they will not be able to access it again until 8pm on Sunday.
“Once the High Street is closed, we can’t wait to fill it with local people, entertainment and activities. This is all about celebrating our town, our High Street and our amazing community, and we hope people of all ages will come along and enjoy the day with us.”
The Your Billericay Community Parade & Celebration Day takes place on Sunday 13th September, with the parade beginning at 11am.
Billericay High Street will be closed to traffic from 8am until 8pm on Sunday 13th September. And most importantly, please don’t leave your car parked on the High Street overnight on Saturday 12th September, you won’t be able to move it!
