Grand Arcade in Cambridge has opened its immersive, underwater-themed exhibition to the public. ‘Grand Depths’, which is running until 31 August in partnership with the University Museum of Zoology is centred around raising awareness of marine conservation and preserving our oceans’ rich biodiversity, incorporating sustainable practices and recycled paper materials to create the installation.

Alongside the exhibition, Grand Depths also includes a series of free events and workshops for children and families throughout the summer holidays, with talks from leading Zoologists from the University of Cambridge.

Grand Depths represents over 1,200 hours of craftmanship from six artists and a building team of 10 people who spent three nights building the exhibition onsite, making the project Grand Arcade’s longest installation period to date.

Julie Kervadec, Marketing Manager at Grand Arcade said, “We are beyond overjoyed that the day has finally arrived where the public can dive into the Grand Depths of our oceans. At Grand Arcade, we take pride in developing original concepts for our exhibitions, where our audience is at the heart of both design and creation. Watching Grand Depths come to life across the three nights was an extraordinary experience, especially installing the 22-metre-high display of 500 fish as it took real teamwork, attention to detail, and problem solving to make it happen!

“However, Grand Depths is more than just an incredible art display. Working with our partners at the University Museum of Zoology, this free exhibition is designed to spark conversation about marine conservation and protecting our fragile oceans, placing community partnership, educational value, and environmental responsibility at the forefront of what we do. We cannot wait for visitors of all ages to explore the exhibition over the summer and connect with our planet through the amazing activities and talks on offer.”
