Arriva has announced that it’s introducing a brand new, direct bus service linking Canvey Island and Southend Seafront.
The 1X service will run up to every 30 minutes between Monday and Saturday from 1 June 2026, with the last bus back from Canvey at 7:45pm (7:43pm on Saturdays).
The service is a landmark moment for the local area, providing a service with limited stops, restoring a quick and direct link for the two destinations. Arriva has also confirmed that customers won’t pay more than £3 for a single fare, even for the full length of the route.
Customers will also be able to access destinations including stops along London Road between Chalkwell Park and Hadleigh.
Michael Jennings, Commercial Director for Arriva Southern Counties, said: “We’re thrilled to make this announcement today and confident that the new service will transform travel connections for people in the local area.
“The 1X service will provide a quick, direct way for local people to travel between Canvey Island and Southend. It’s also important to us to ensure that the service is as accessible as possible, which is why we’ve capped fares at £3 for a single journey.”
Arriva is proud to support local communities across the UK with reliable and affordable travel connections. The new service will boost connectivity, making shopping trips, days at the beach this summer and commuting easier for local people.
