Colchester Two new independent businesses have opened their doors in Red Lion Yard, empowering the area’s reputation as a blossoming destination for start-up and independent retail in the heart of Colchester.
Reformd Pilates and La Corina boutique were officially opened during a sparkling ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, March 14, attended by Colchester MP Pam Cox, the Mayor of Colchester, Councillor Michael Lilley and the city’s Town Crier, Rennie Chivers.
The event marks the latest milestone in the evolution of Red Lion Yard, which is quickly developing into a vibrant space for independent traders, lifestyle brands and new concepts, offering visitors a growing variety of experiences alongside the established retail mix of Colchester’s Lion Walk Shopping Centre.
Located just off the High Street, Red Lion Yard is designed to provide opportunities for emerging businesses to establish themselves in a city-centre location, creating a dynamic environment where shoppers can discover something new.
Among the latest additions is Reformd Pilates, a modern Pilates studio offering dynamic reformer-based classes designed to strengthen, tone and energise the body.
Also opening its doors is La Corina, a fashion boutique offering expressive and refined clothing for both women and men.
Pam Cox, MP for Colchester, said: “Independent businesses play a vital role in keeping our city centre vibrant and distinctive. It’s wonderful to see new ventures like Reformd Pilates and La Corina choosing to open in Colchester, bringing fresh ideas and new opportunities for both residents and visitors. Red Lion Yard is an exciting space where entrepreneurs can thrive and I’m delighted to join the community in celebrating these new openings.”
Martin Leatherdale, Centre Manager at Lion Walk Shopping Centre, said: “Red Lion Yard is developing into a fantastic destination where independent businesses can launch and grow while offering visitors something genuinely different. The arrival of Reformd Pilates and La Corina adds even more variety to what is already a vibrant and creative part of the city centre.”
“Our aim is to create an environment where new businesses feel supported and where shoppers can discover unique brands, experiences and services. Carley Wigley from Reformd Pilates added: “We are so excited by this opportunity to launch the Reformd Pilates studio in Red Lion Yard. It’s just the perfect location. We love the aesthetic of the space and the footfall within Red Lion Yard, it’s a beautiful, calm, pedestrianised area. As well as the studio, which I’ve opened alongside Sarah and Danny Kent, we will soon be launching an academy to teach a new generation of instructors too.”
Corina Noonan from La Corina added: “It is very special to be in Red Lion Yard. The outside of the store is just so beautiful and we love being in this historic part of the city.
