Cats Protection Essex Cat Centre is opening its doors on Saturday for its annual Fun Day, with a chance to go behind the scenes and see the cats currently in its care.
The centre in Deadman’s Lane, Galleywood, is throwing its magical-themed family event on 28 June between 10.30am-2.30pm, featuring a kids’ zone with hook-a-duck, lucky dip, bean bag toss, a cosy corner and a fun quiz to complete. Other stalls include homemade crafts, gifts and refreshments ranging from hot food to ice cream. And for the first time there will be a live brass band to entertain.
There will also be the opportunity to take a tour to see some of the cats the centre is looking after as they await their new homes.
Money raised at the event will go towards helping the steady stream of cats and kittens who are cared for at the centre, with demand on services ever growing.
Centre Manager Charlotte Boddy said: “In the past year staff and volunteers have rehomed nearly 500 cats and kittens to families across Essex and further afield. Cats come to us for so many reasons, from those that have been found as strays to those who are signed over because their owners can no longer afford to keep them.
“While many can be rehomed quickly, increasingly cats are arriving in a terrible state. These cats may take many months to get to a place where they are healthy and strong enough to be considered for adoption. Vet bills can really mount up when dealing with these unfortunate cats, and we are extremely grateful to our supporters for donating or spending their money at events such as our open days.
“This fun day is an opportunity for us to meet and thank our generous supporters and for people to look behind the scenes at the hard work that goes into caring for these cats – they may even meet and fall and love with a new furry friend!”
