GB News has been shortlisted in two categories at the annual Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Awards.
In a double-success, GB News Breakfast is up for Best News Programme while National Reporter Charlie Peters is in the running for Best News Presenter.
The news comes as latest industry viewing figures show more and more Brits are now waking up with the People’s Channel – as the numbers watching or tuning in soar.
RAJAR data released last week detailed how GB News Breakfast, made up of Eamonn Holmes, Ellie Costello, Stephen Dixon, Anne Diamond, Paul Coyte and Aidan Magee, has seen its audience leap a massive 26% in a year.
The success is being driven by GB News’ fearless determination to champion Britain, and to shine a light on topics other broadcasters shy away from.
Nowhere is that better demonstrated than via the work of Charlie Peters, who has won plaudits for his work on the scandal of child sex grooming gangs.
This has included presenting the ground-breaking documentary Grooming Gangs: Britain’s Shame.
Charlie’s peerless reporting has led to calls for a national inquiry to examine why potentially hundreds of thousands of children have been failed by the authorities in so many areas of the country.
Ben Briscoe, Head of Programming on GB News, said: “We are particularly pleased to be shortlisted because these awards are voted for by the public.
“To us, they’re the true People’s Awards for the industry so to be shortlisted in two categories is a huge honour.
“Thanks to the tireless work of our team GB News Breakfast has now firmly established itself as Britain’s best breakfast programme. And Charlie Peters’ journalism over the past 12 months has been inspirational.
“It is a recognition of the ever-growing popularity of GB News and a credit to the hard work of all our journalists and presenters. We look forward to attending the awards in June and wish GB News Breakfast and Charlie success.”
The TRIC Awards, now in their 56th year, will take place at Grosvenor House on Park Lane in London on Tuesday 24 June.
They are expected to attract an audience of more than 1,000 guests from across the TV and media industry, with the ceremony also available to the general public to stream live.
