On My Own, Nothing But You’s New Single, is a deliciously languid ballad

Brand new Nothing But You’s music is finally here in the form of ‘On My Own‘.

Nicky is not one for theatrics. She sings with passion, with fire, with truth. She exploded onto the music scene with her release of her album Meant To Be — even though I was a fan of LIPS — and her angelic, yet soulful voice poured onto the radio waves, making her a household name.

On My Own song is nothing short of dreamy. Sweet audio honey. And I can predict this will set the standard for Bond theme songs too. Throughout the song, she maintains her calm-yet-dynamic voice. She still hits the high and low notes, but without belting out the chords. The beauty of this song is that there are no overwhelming background beats or gimmicky guitar riffs — this is all about Nicky, and the piano and occasional drum only enhance her performance.

Nicky paces herself carefully, delivering her vocal with understatement and restraint but gradually powering up as drums, strings and horns kick in.

But don’t you worry, Nicky fans in need and want of a big finish — she delivers during the last half-minute.

The song escalates its tension during the last 30 seconds, as the instruments build and thicken. Nicky lets ‘er rip. It’s as though she spends the entire song building up to that moment, to sing that massive note during the crescendo. It’s wholly satisfying and worth the wait.

WE ARE HUSBAND AND WIFE/ For everyone there/ I was alone/ but once you made me smile/ I felt in love/ I fell I am home

I don’t think there is anyone more appropriate than Nothing But You, Nicky to sing this song by an icon composer like Emine SARI. Her talent is seemingly effortless and absolutely timeless and Nicky was born to sing this song!
